Teaching Methods
As a small school with small classes we are able to pay attention to each child's individual needs. We recognise that all children do not learn in the same way and lessons are planned to reflect this. We use whole class teaching, group and individual teaching. Every class is supported by a teaching assistant for a percentage of the week. Back to topAssessment
The class teacher records children's attainment in lessons. In addition children are regularly given tests in reading, spelling, maths and science. Test results are recorded and targets set to ensure every child is working to the best of their ability and achieving the levels of which they are capable. We involve children in setting their individual targets. Back to topHomework
Children throughout the school take home their reading book each day. They are expected to read daily at home. Children each have a reading record book so that parents can write any comments they might have for the teacher. Children in KS1 have Jolly Phonics work books and Reception high frequency word books which go home daily. As soon as children are ready they have spellings to learn. KS2 children are given regular literacy and numeracy homework. Children really benefit from parental support when they are completing their homework. Back to topExtra Curricular Clubs
A number of school activities are arranged for children to enrich their education outside of the normal school sessions. These activities are organised by staff and external coaches. They form an important part of school life. Back to topBehaviour
Our aim is to create a positive atmosphere in which children feel safe, secure and happy and are given the maximum opportunities to learn whilst developing self-discipline. The behaviour of all our children is the shared responsibility of all those who care for them. We view it as an important aspect of our partnership with parents. Therefore we have included a copy of our Behaviour Policy. Back to topRationale
